Welcome to the official website of the Mid Shropshire Crown Green Bowling League for the 2015 season - our 83nd since being established in 1932.

This much-praised site was launched in 2011 to provide all the latest information on league news, dates, competitions and, most importantly, results and tables – all in one place.
Mike Beckett's revolutionary results system, which sees clubs input result details direct into their computers, ensures that is the case, and that superb system will have a change to cope with this year as clubs in the Saturday divisions adopt the unique points scoring system of the highly successful Dennis Lewis Thursday Night Division, which was launched in 2014 and is also eight-a-side. Newcomers to it this year are Shrewsbury-based Prince of Wales Hotel, who are warmly welcomed back.
With their return, our Telford-based league now has 28 member clubs with 1,500 bowlers and provides competition in three main divisions on Friday nights and three more on Monday evenings.
The Jack Jones Junior Division Trophy was re-launched in 2013 and league officers are currently working on a Junior Development Policy to try and attract more youngsters to take up the game.

Mid Shropshire's nomination Mike Potter (pictured) is now serving as County President for 2015, and he has picked Allscott to stage the County Merit finals on Sunday, June 28.

  • Ercall Magna On The Move This is an update on the future of Ercall Magna, as of 2nd July, 2015, sent to the key officers of all five leagues it competes in – plus the secretary of the SCGBA:Following a demand for £3,500 in annual rent from the Company Director of the Cleveland Arms, High Ercall, for use of the green – payable in just seven days and un-negotiable – the club has, with great sadness, decided to leave its home of 41 years since it was formed. It will, thanks to hugely appreciated efforts of the committee at Bowring (and the understanding of all leagues), be moving to that Wellington club for the remainder of the season – all six teams carrying on by playing ...

  • Family Fortunes At Allscott! Never mind County Merit finals, it will be more like Family Fortunes at Allscott on Sunday, June 28. The Mid Shropshire club is the stage for the biggest day on the Shropshire bowls calendar from 11am – and it’s already a special one for the Potter family. For Mike Potter is the County President who has worked tirelessly to prepare for the occasion and, among the 32 qualifiers chasing the coveted title, a £300 first prize and the magnificent Charles Beddard Trophy is his son John. And the family connections don’t end there as one of the first round ties in the Flowfit-sponsored competition is a meeting of Bowring star Rich Lawson and his clubmate and nephew Rob ...

Tony Roche’s men retained the Derek Wright Shield by beating Tanners Shropshire – the only other team to have won it – by six shots in the final at Joules BC in Market Drayton on June 20. “It came down to the last two games on the green to seal Mid Shropshire’s successful defence of the title so well done to them,” said organiser Phil Scott, the county competition secretary. Steve Parton and Les Mumford were the bowlers who got Mid Shropshire over the finishing line on Saturday night – just as it was ...

  • County Merit finals at Allscott - 2 days to go The last time Allscott hosted the County Merit finals was in 1985 when the club was known as British Sugar.Winner that day was the late Alan 'Wishy'' Dodd, who two years later went on to be the youngest ever winner of the British Merit. The Oxon youngster beat Mid Shropshire star Rich Lawson - then of Donnington Wood now of Bowring - in the 1985 final. And Lawson, one of the best Shropshire bowlers never to have won the County Merit crown, is back for another crack on Sunday.Unfortunately for him and his family, Lawson meets his nephew and Bowring club mate Rob Roden in round one as the 32 qualifiers go into battle from 11am . . .
