Welcome to the official website of the Mid Shropshire Crown Green Bowling League for the 2018 season - our 86th since being established in 1932.

This much-praised site was launched in 2011 to provide all the latest information on league news, dates, competitions and, most importantly, results and tables – all in one place.

And Mike Beckett's revolutionary results system, which sees clubs input result details direct into their computers, makes this possible, providing instant updates once match details are input .

Based in Telford, the League now has 27 member clubs with nearly 1,500 bowlers, providing competition in three main 12-a-side divisions on both Friday and Monday nights.

But there also popular Thursday night and Saturday afternoon divisions, which are both eight-a-side with a unique points scoring system which rewards individual bowlers.

And it is in the Dennis Lewis Thursday Division, named in honour of a hugely respected late chairman, that the League has welcomed its latest new club - Shawbury-based Elephant & Castle - who join Shrewsbury's Prince of Wales Hotel to give the League a huge geographical coverage across Shropshire.

After losing a number of greens and clubs of late, League officers are determined to try and grow the sport again by attracting more and younger people to take up crown green bowls. And the awarding of a £7,145 grant from Sport England to buy small bowls, jacks and sets of modern coaching equipment is seen as key to this. With new County Development Officer and coaching chief Pauline Wilson driving the project forward, the onus is now on clubs to take a positive approach to recruitment by organising attractive and fun coaching sessions and then publicising them by any means they can, especially in their local schools. She is pictured (right) with some of the equipment bought and fellow coaches Paul Taylor and Brenda Slingo.

The Junior Development Policy put into practice at Hadley Learning Community and Charlton BC has now run for two years, proving its worth by delivering new members for that club in 2017, while last  junior coaching programmes at Shifnal and Sinclair continue to thrive. It can be done!

Mid Shropshire have also continued to award Life Memberships in 2018 to recognise the efforts of bowlers to further the sport, Honoured at this year's AGM were 90-year-old former fixture secretary Frank Booth; Albighton stalwart Steve Wall, who has served the League in many roles in recent decades, including chairman, fixture secretary and now webmaster; and past League treasurer and junior selector John Hughes, the man who secure Mid Shropshire's first ever main sponsorship deal.
