Welcome to the official website of the Mid Shropshire Crown Green Bowling League for the 2019 season - our 87th since being established in 1932.

This much-praised site was launched in 2011 to provide all the latest information on league news, dates, competitions and, most importantly, results and tables – all in one place.

And Mike Beckett's revolutionary results system, which sees clubs input result details direct into their computers, makes this possible, providing instant updates once match details are input.

Based in Telford, the League now has 27 member clubs with nearly 1,500 bowlers, providing competition in three main 12-a-side divisions on Friday nights. But in a radical  move, approved at an EGM in March, matches in the three Monday evening divisions are now 10-a-side. And that has produced more teams!

There is also a popular Thursday night division, which is eight-a-side, while the Saturday afternoon division has been saved for another year by changing the format to four singles matches and two doubles. Both of these divisions have a unique points scoring system which rewards individual bowlers.

And it is in the Dennis Lewis Thursday Division, named in honour of a hugely respected late chairman, that the League welcomed its latest new addition - Shawbury-based Elephant & Castle - who join Shrewsbury's Prince of Wales Hotel to give the League a huge geographical coverage across Shropshire.

The League is proud of its recent efforts in the Shropshire junior inter-league championships - and the veterans team, with new skipper Peter Roden in charge, won the title again in 2018 in Whitchurch. His predecessor as vets captain, Tony Roche, is now concentrating on playing - and that has paid dvidends in 2019 as he retained the MSBL Over-60 Merit title in May at Allscott Heath (pictured above, left, with League President  MIke Potter and fellow finalist Richard Suggett)

League officers are working hard to try and grow the sport by attracting more and younger people to take up crown green bowls - and are delighted that new County Development Officer and coaching chief Pauline Wilson is using the coaching equipment bought with a £7,145 grant from Sport England to the maximum. Now the onus is now on clubs to take a positive approach to recruitment by organising attractive and fun coaching sessions and then publicising them in their locality, especially in their local schools.

The Junior Development Policy put into practice at Hadley Learning Community and Charlton BC has now run for three years, proving its worth by delivering new members for that club, while junior coaching programmes at Shifnal and Sinclair have set the example for others to follow. It can be done!

Mid Shropshire have also continued to award Life Memberships in 2019 to recognise the efforts of bowlers to further the sport, Honoured at this year's AGM were 'Mr Edgmond' Richard Chesters and Ron Adams of Madeley CC - both former chairmen of the League.
