Saturday, October 4, 2014, is the new date set for the league and its bowlers to pay tribute to late chairman Dennis Lewis.
A 6.30pm start is planned at Wellington's Sir John Bayley Club with the programme featuring a clash of Shropshire's 2006 county championship-winning juniors - of which Dennis was team manager - against Mid Shropshire's current crop on the top (No. 2) green.
At the same time a Shropshire Ladies team made up of Mid Shropshire-based players will take on a Mid Shropshire League select 12 on the No.1 green - with a couple of Bayley stalwarts thrown in for good measure!
County selector Rob Burroughs is working on sorting the players for the junior clash while Shropshire Ladies secretary Angela Gaut is pulling together the women's team. As for the The League Select 12 it's a case of watch this space!
There will be food for players and supporters afterwards and, hopefully - with the permission of the SJB committee - some entertainment after the Bayley Flyer at 10pm.
Dennis, a Bayley man through and through, served the league as chairman for 10 years, driving it forward while also doing so much for Shropshire bowls at junior, senior and executive level. His finest hour was plotting the 2009 Crosfield Cup triumph.
Saturday, October 4, is the league's attempt to say thank you to him, raising some money for charity in the process. And it's all being done with the blessing of Dennis's wife June.
AND FINALLY, on the subject of dates, the league's August management committee meeting has been put back a week to Tuesday, August 12, to avoid clashing with the main holiday fortnight.
