Pride In Our Performance

Mid Shropshire’s bowlers failed to take the Dave Ellis Challenge Shield back off our rivals from the Tanners Shropshire League, but they pushed them a lot closer than when this charity match was last played in 2011.

In fact the Division 4-5-6 team can take great pride from winning their 12-a-side leg at Telepost in Shrewsbury by 6 shots (207-201), Reg Bennett of Madeley CC marking his 56th wedding anniversary with a best 21-7 card at No 11.

Les Brown (Bylet) won 21-12 as Mid Shropshire won three of the first four and his score was matched by Abbey’s Harold Corbett in the middle.

But Tanners won away at Shifnal by 37 with eight winners - Bowring’s Karen Smith being the best for Mid Shropshire’s Div 1-2-3 side with a 21-12 win - to seal victory by 31 overall.

A raffle at Telepost realised £87 - and the two leagues have agreed to donate it to Mark Shore's appeal for the Meningitis Trust. Mark, who is recovering from the illness, learned to play in Mid Shropshire and is currently with Hanwood. He is walking Hadrian's Wall to raise money for the charity and Mid Shropshire will also be making a donation from the Shifnal leg.

AND FINALLY, the results from the Division 3 Extra KO ties are on the relevant page of the competitions section of this site. The neutral venues for the semi-finals on Friday, September 27, will be posted there as soon as they are confirmed.
