League chairman Sean Round and fellow selectors Ian Pesssall and Chris Lodge were proud men after Mid Shropshire's 12-strong squad produced a valiant effort in the Shropshire senior inter-league championship in Shrewsbury on Saturday, June 7.
Drawn in the toughest round robin group, and playing on Severnside No. 2 (St Julians green), Mid Shropshire opened with a 16 shot victory over North Shropshire Ladies in the eight-a-side competition.
Then followed what proved the decisive clash with reigning champions Whitchurch, who won the title at Hadley USC last year, and Mid Shropshire lost by an agonising seven shots despite having four winners apiece.
They finished the day with a 15 chalk loss to the Premier League, while Whitchurch also made the semi-final line-up as the best runners-up from the three groups that catered for the 12 teams that took part.
Nearly all of the squad played two games on a wet day and Round declared: "There were two stand out performances - Tony Garmson beating Martin Lloyd and Rob Stevention beating Colin Beaman."
