Super Cup Comes To Mid Shropshire

The league has been on the receiving end – of a magnificent new trophy.

The Sid Brown Memorial Cup was presented at the November meeting to the chairman Dennis Lewis and competitions secretary Phil King by his grandson Dean Law, who bowls for Highley.

Bigger than football’s FA Cup, the trophy will go to the winners of the league’s Saturday B Division, which means Allscott will be the first recipients at the annual dinner on January 11.

Law - who captained Mid Shropshire's away team that won their leg of the Dave Ellis Challenge match against the Tanners Shropshire League at Telepost - told the meeting that his grandfather had bowled for Wellington’s Cock Hotel and GKN Sankey. And the trophy used to go to the winner of the Champion of Champions competition for bowlers who worked in the wheelshop at Sankey’s.

He was thanked for his generous donation by chairman Dennis Lewis and all the delegates of the member clubs present.

Law’s club Highley have taken the 14th and last place available for the first season of the league’s new Thursday Night Division next year.

The eight-a-side division has a unique points scoring system that was devised by Lee Bowden and members of Hadley USC.
