It was third time lucky for Sam Millward in the League’s Under-25 Merit.

Having lost in two previous finals, the Newport bowler finally got his hands on the trophy by beating a homester in the final on Saturday 9th June at Wrockwardine Wood.

Millward, now captain of Newport’s Premier League side, defeated multi-titled Wrockite Sally Clee 21-12 in the key clash after 12 had entered by the 6pm start time.

The semi-finals saw a battle of two new county senior team members with Millward beating David Lloyd (Bowring) 21-10 while Clee edged out her partner Jamie King (Bowring) 21-19.

League officials will now look at the date for the Under-25 Merit next year as at least three potential entrants were ruled out as they were representing Mid Shropshire in the senior inter-league in Whitchurch.

Quarter-final scores – Millward 21 Joe Killen (Shifnal) 13, Lloyd 21 Aaron King (Bowring) 16, Clee 21 Akheel Khan (Shifnal) 10, J King 21 Tom Killen (Shifnal) 8.
