They've won numerous League titles, both together and individually - but never the Dixon Driscoll Doubles.

But all that changed for Jamie King and his fiance Sally Clee on Saturday 29th June at Newport.

The Wrockwardine Wood clubmates got their hands on the trophy for the first time by beating John Potter (Hadley USC) and Ben Hudson (Sir John Bayley) 21-16 in the final.

After a bright start on the green nearest to the clubhouse, King & Clee trailed 9-7 but then stepped up the pace to lead 14-9 before powering on from 14-13 to win in 20 ends.

In the semi-finals King & Clee raced past last year’s winners Ayden Smith & Nick Mullinder (Hadley USC) 21-6 while Potter & Hudson were nearly as impressive in beating John Cooke & Aaron King (St Georges) 21-10.

League comps chief Phil King made the thanks yous and presentations after a total of 26 pairs contested the morning qualifiers at St Georges and Donnington Wood to deliver the last eight.

Quarter-final scores: King & Clee 21 Ben & Josh Cotton (Wrock Wd) 14; Smith & Mullinder 21 Ian Thomas & Steve Downs (HUSC & W Wd) 13; Cooke & King 21 Phil King & Jim Fletcher (Hadley USC) 20; Potter & Hudson 21 Steve Pessall & Phil Jones (St Georges) 16.
