Belated, but sincere, congratulations go to Angela and Martin Gaut for winning the League's Mixed Doubles title.

The mother and son combination triumphed on Bowring No.2 on Sunday 14th July - when eight pairs competed - and received the trophy from League chairman Sean Round..

It’s been a super season for Martin on the open comps circuit, but he needed a helping hand to land his first title.

And it came from his mum, the prolific Angela Gaut, as they teamed up to win the mixed doubles.

But it took a brilliant performance to get over the line on the old green at Bowring as they eventually edged out husband and wife, Dave and Juliette King (St Georges-Sinclair) 21-20 in the final.

A League spokesman said: "Congratulations go to both pairs in the final, it was a great game – one of many played on an immaculate surface on the day."

The 26-yar-old Martin (St Georges) started 2019 by reaching the final of the Coors Meole Brace Open while his mum Angela continues to win titles as one of the leading lights on the Shropshire Ladies scene.

The winners had defeated last year’s champions Stuart & Jackie Rutter (WrockwardineWood) 21-19 in the semi-finals as the Kings were seeing off another Wrockites duo, John Clarke & Helen Clee, 21-7.
