Barry Griffin's Ashton Cup Generosity

posted Apr 13, 2016, 5:59 AM by Malcolm Fletcher

Tonight - Wednsday 13 April - is first round night in the Ashton Cup, with eight ties scheduled to be played.

And the trophy they are playing for, originally donated by long serving league officer Peter Ashton, has received a close-season upgrade thanks to a generous donation from Barry Griffin.

Barry, a member of the Wrockwardine Wood team that has dominated the five home-five away KO for Monday division sides in recent times with five triumphs in six years, offered to cover the cost of the upgrade, which ended up at nearly £80.

League officers and member clubs thank him for his much appreciated donation.

Now the question is, can anyone stop the Wrockites from winning the new-look trophy this year? Their first round opponents are last season's Ashton Shield runners-up Donnignton Wood . . .
