Allan and Angela Gaut completed a hat-trick of triumphs in the league's 2016 Mixed Doubles at Allscott today - Saturday 23 April.

And in doing so the highly-respected husband and wife pairing ended the hat-trick hopes of Wrockwardine Wood clubmates Rob Fuller and Sally Clee, winners of the competition for the last two years.

The Gauts - winners in 2000 and 2003 - produced superb bowls at the last two ends to beat the young duo 21-19 after a nip and tuck final in which they led 7-1, then trailed 12-9 and went 15-15 and 19-19 before they came up with the two decisive deliveries.

It took six hours to produce the winners of yet another trophy donated by the late Peter Ashton from the 13 entries, the Gauts beating Simon Oldcorn & Lisa Pessall 21-12 in their semi-final while Fuller & Clee were getting the better of 2008 title winners Dave & Juliette King to 13.

Quarter-final scores - Phil & Helen Clee 14 A & A Gaut 21; Oldcorn & Pessall 21 Pete Millington & Shavorne Osbourne 9; Fuller & Clee 21 Dave Pritchard & Jodie Rutter 14; D & J King 21 Steve Robert & Sian Skelton 20.
