Sally Clee and Jamie King can’t stop winning doubles titles – and now they have done it together.

Partners in real life, they teamed up to win the League’s Mixed Doubles with a never-say-die display at Donnington Wood on Saturday 22nd April.

They were 20-13 down in the final against Sally’s Wrockardine Wood clubmates Steve Roberts and Sian Skelton and fearing the worst.

But just minutes later, after two full house fours, they were celebrating a stunning 21-20 victory to give Sally her third triumph in four years in the competition and new Bowring Premier team skipper Jamie a second doubles title in two weeks following success in the Candlin at Sinclair with Scott Harries.

“It was a brilliant final on a good day – and Sally and Jamie complemented each other so well,” said happy organiser Phil King.

“We had 15 entries, which was slightly down on last year, but it was beautiful day with six hours of really good bowling.”

The final result was tough on league vice-chairman Roberts and Skelton, who used a 24 metre mark across the middle of the older No.1 green to get to 20-13 ahead after 22 ends, but they could not deny their young opponents.

On a day when Wrockwardine Wood bowlers dominated, King & Clee beat semi-final rivals Ian Thomas & Louise Cotton by running out from 10-9 adrift while Roberts & Skelton hit back hard to also win 21-10 against Jodie Rutter and Bowring new boy Ayden Smith.

League President Mike Potter and King were on hand to conduct the presentations and the quarter-final scores were:

Roberts & Skelton 21 Pete Millington & Carleen Doody-Millington (Trench) 10; Smith & Rutter 21 Simon Oldcorn & Lisa Pessall (Trench) 14; King & Clee 21 Richard & Susie Lawson (Bowring) 7; Thomas & Cotton 21 Stuart Rutter & Helen Clee (Wrock Wood) 20.
