SCGBA Closure Advice on 21st March

posted Mar 22, 2020, 12:05 PM by Malcolm Fletcher
To all SCGBA affiliated clubs, leagues, and bowling members:

We been contacted in many ways about bowling activities.

The BCGBA and SCGBA have suspended all bowling.

The Government this week and especially on Friday night have taken unprecedented measures to help keep people safe.

The Covid-19 virus is one of the most dangerous that has been known to modern man.

With regret, given the knowledge that we have all been advised to avoid unnecessary social contact, we must agree and as a measure to help people protect themselves and others say the following:

All bowling clubs (leisure facilities) should be closed

We really do understand the benefits of bowling and the serious effect this will have on a club’s abilities to survive.

SCGBA is continuously monitoring the situation and has set up calls to help decide on important matters and to protect our members. More information will be provided. We ask for your patience.

Can we ask club secretaries to ensure the safety of its members, help those that need help maybe with essential shopping tasks, or just a phone call to check they are ok. This can be done on a rota basis, so it doesn’t fall on one person. Also, to help people be aware of scams and fake news.

Security of Clubs will be an issue while people are not using them. Make sure your equipment is kept safe, we are asking the advice of professionals about what is essential maintenance of a bowling green when not in use and will pass that on as we know clubs will need to save as much expenditure as possible. For now, lock the doors, use notices and advise your members of this safety advice.

Please adhere to our request, we are not going to police this, currently people are being correctly informed by experts via the Government & Health Authorities with much detail on their webpages.
And to ram that 'stay at home' point home: the more effectively we follow the advice that we are given, the faster this country will stage both a medical and an economic recovery in full
Kind regards,

Mo Corley (Secretary SCGBA)
