Goodbye To A Great

The League will say farewell to Neil Hinton, one of the greats of the game in Mid Shropshire, on Friday 10th August.
In fact all of Shropshire's bowls loving stalwarts are in mourning following the loss of another member of the first county team to win the Crosfield Cup in 1974.

For Neil -  who won 21-19 in the home leg at long-gone GKN Sankey of the historic two shot final victory over Cheshire - passed away peacefully in Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital on July 24, aged 90.

His funeral service is on Friday at 10.30am at Telford Crematorium when bowlers from all over the county are expected to pay their respects.

Neil won the County Doubles with his Hadley USC team-mate Derrick Price in 1997 and was a Mid Shropshire Merit champion three tines – in 1967, 1978 and 1980.

He continued bowling after retiring and won the Mid Shropshire Senior Citizens League Merit four times when with Donnignton Wood, first in 1992 and three years in a row from 1995.

His late wife Eileen was British Ladies chairwoman and a stalwart member of Wrockwardine Wood and Neil leaves a daughter Carol, son-in-law Steve and two grandchildren.

RIP Neil Hinton . . .
