League's Hopes To Arrest Fall . . .

posted Dec 12, 2017, 7:07 AM by Malcolm Fletcher
The number of Shropshire people taking up crown green bowls has fallen for the first time in at least a decade.

County registrar Brian Kitson issued 238 new registration cards to people taking up the sport in 2017 – down 26 on last year’s figure.

And he told the latest county executive meeting that it was the first time the annual number had dropped since he had been in the role.

But Shropshire is only following the national trend, with the British registrar dealing with 4,376 newcomers this year – down 300 on 2016.

The MSBL hopes to arrest the fall, at least locally, with the aid of the £7,145 grant from Sport England to buy five sets of state of the art coaching equipment to attract juniors - and indeed people of all ages - to take up the sport.

But more of that over the Festive Holiday period . . .
