Mid Shropshire clubs planning to make improvements may have a new funding opportunity to turn to as early as next year.

The county association aim to launch a grant system in 2018 to continue to use of its much improved bank balance since the doubling of the annual registration fee to £2 per player per club.

The latest meeting of the county executive accepted a report from its finance committee that preferred giving grants to clubs rather than repayable loans, mainly due to it being an easier and legally acceptable way of distributing funds.

Treasurer Brian Kitson outlined details of the grant system, which is to be advertised on the county website soon, and clubs will have until May 1 each year to fill in an application form to be considered for a grant from a planned first year pot of £5,000..

The executive also agreed to explore further a new structure for the nomination of a Deputy President as more and more affiliated leagues turn down their chance to put forward a candidate as the figurehead roles become increasingly less attractive - but the county's Code of Conduct looks like remaining unchanged..
