Saturday Divsion In 2019 - The Good News!

Not only will the Saturday Division go ahead this season after being saved – it will return to life with EIGHT teams competing.

Late change of hearts by reigning champions Sinclair, Trench and Sir John Bayley mean they will be joining Allscott Heath, Charlton, Bridgnorth and returning duo Donnington Wood and Wrockwardine Wood in contesting the title.

All have agreed to the new format of four singles and two doubles – meaning clubs need a minimum of only four bowlers for a fixture, but they can use a maximum of eight.

The club match fee will be £2.40 per match (ie 30p per person in either the singles or doubles).

But the late surge in interest means an earlier than planned start for the 14 fixture dates required – with 2pm starts - and fixture secretary Ric Hudson has set the following dates, saying “I think they will work”:

Saturdays 1st to 22nd June (4 matches) before 2 weekends off to allow for Phil King’s League competitions

Saturdays 13th July to 17th August ( 6 matches) before 1 weekend off for the bank holiday

Saturdays 31st August to 21st September (the final 4 matches)

Ric and his fellow MSBL officers will now work on making the changes to the rules required and put them before the April management committee meeting, along with the changes they have been mandated to make to accommodate the switch to 10-a-side fixtures in Monday’s three divisions.
