Ashton Cup - Another Chapter . . .

posted Aug 31, 2017, 12:52 PM by Malcolm Fletcher
Wrockwardine Wood will bid to extend a remarkable record in the Ashton Cup on Saturday 2nd September when they feature in yet another final.

The Wrockites take on Worfield in the final on the Premier green of Wellington club Bowring (6.30pm start) having won the trophy five times in eight years.

In fact, they got so used to winning it that one of their bowlers, Barry Griffin, generously paid for the trophy to be upgraded!
They will have a one shot advantage on handicap as they look to make it six triumphs but skipper Bob Elcock has had headaches getting a starting 10.

Worfield, on the other hand, are hoping to make it a night of family celebrations as their team features three husbands and wives plus a father and son - with another husband and wife on reserve!

The village club also hope to go one better than when losing in the 2014 final of the Ashton Shield to Donnington Wood.
