Wrockwardine Wood C v Sinclair C

On Saturday 27 August at Bowring (No 2 green), 6.30pm

If last year’s final of this competition – played on exactly the same green – is anything to go by then we are in for a cracker!

Fourth division rivals Wrockwardine Wood and Sinclair have proven knockout pedigree in their Monday night ranks, the Ketley-based side winning the Ashton Shield as recently as 2013.

The Wrockites boast an even prouder record, having won the main Ashton Cup five times in the last six years – and Barry Griffin, one of their key bowlers in that run – even paid for an upgrade of the trophy last winter!

Their hopes of another Cup triumph this season were ended by Donnington Wood, but skipper Bob Elcock has still managed to guide his side through to the consolation showpiece.

Both the Wrockites and Sinclair scored comfortable semi-final victories, against Sir John Bayley C and Maddocks B respectively, and they will be playing for a new trophy on Saturday.

It has been kindly donated by Bowring in memory of their late stalwart member Peter Ashton, with the original to now go to the runners-up. Best of luck to both sides – enjoy the occasion!
