Can MSBL Veterans Do It Again On Home Soil?

The League's super seniors will attempt to build on proud county record on home soil on Saturday 18 June.

Their goal is a fourth triumph in five years in the Shropshire veterans inter-league when the eight-a-side one-day championship for over-60s is staged at three member clubs.

Trench and the two greens at Wrockwardine Wood will host round robin groups for three teams in each when nine sides contest the title from 10am, with the semi-finals and final to be played at Maddocks later in the day.

Tony Roche, the man who has masterminded Mid Shropshire’s successful run as sole selector, captain and player, has picked a settled squad that includes the recent winner of the League’s first Over-60 Merit and Ray & Jeff Hutchinson Trophy, Dave Brown.

They are joined by Jon Madeley, Les Mumford, Peter Spragg, John Lovett, Steve Parton, Pat Minton and John Clarke, who will be handicapped as the team have been drawn on a green at his home club of Wrockwardine Wood.

Mid Shropshire feature in group B on the newer No.2 green alongside Tanners Shropshire and Flowfit Ludlow while group A on the No.1 contains SPS Whitchurch, J. N. Hughes Financial Services Market Drayton and North Shropshire Ladies.

Just down the road at Trench BC, group C will see the Terry Jones Solicitors Wem, Osprey Market Drayton Senior Citizens and Shropshire Ladies teams in action.

The three group winners and best runner-up will then head to Maddocks for the knockout stages and a presentation buffet, the eventual winners receiving the Derek Wright Shield.

First games in each group are - A on WW 1: Whitchurch v Market Drayton; B on WW 2: Mid Shropshire v Tanners Shropshire; C at Trench: Wem v Market Drayton Seniors
