Handicap Will Be Big Cup FInal Factor

A huge 23 shot difference on handicap gives Horsehay C plenty to make up in the Ashton Cup final against Albrighton C on Saturday 3 September at Hadley USC (6.30pm).

Horsehay (+6) are flying high in third place in division four of the  League while Albrighton (+29) are top of division six.
But most of the Albrighton line-up featured in their Ashton Shield success last year and they are only in the lowest division because the club launched a new second team in the top divisions on Fridays and the Monday side was then treated as a new applicant.
Horsehay may not have won a Monday knockout prize in recent years but the ambitious club are currently third in division four with a number of players near the top of the divisional averages.

One of them is John Phillips who, back in May, was runner-up to his best mate Dave Brown of Bowring in the first ever final of the League’s new Over-60s Merit for the Ray & Jeff Hutchinson Cup.

Let’s just hope this showpiece is as exciting as last weekend’s Ashton Shield final which Sinclair won by just five chalks.
The pairings will appear as an item on Competition News before the final
