Hoping For Junior Joy - On 2 Fronts . . .

League officers now are hoping for good news on junior development - on two fronts.

A bid for a grant of £7,500 from Sport England for five sets of modern junior coaching equipment - including small bowls - was completed this week.

Backed by county development officer Peter Carter and the SCGBA, the aim is to create coaching centres all over Mid Shropshire and Shropshire and also for qualified coaches to have access to the equipment to do coaching sessions at every affiliated club that asks for them.

Joe Lockley, Club Development Manager of Energize Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, confirmed on Tuesday 21 March: "I have just submitted the application.

"Sport England should be in touch within the next month. If accepted they will ask for further documents and a signed acceptance letter."
But League chiefs will know before that whether a second summer of after schools bowls clubs will go ahead at Hadley Learning Community and Charlton BC.

Head of primary phase at HLC, Erica Aston, has a meeting next week to finalise which after school clubs will dun in the summer term - and Peter Carter has coaches ready and waiting for the news . . .
