The league's young bowlers have been given special dispensation to practice on a green on the day of a competition on it that some may be taking part in.
The break from tradition was confirmed for the Mid Shropshire Under-15 Merit, which is on Saturday 7 May at Allscott from 6.30pm (entries taken on the night, dress code rules apply).
League competition secretary and county junior selector Phil King picked the venue as it is the scene of the home leg of Shropshire’s opening Drakes Pride under-18 county championship match against Merseyside the next day.
And the home squad getting as much practice on the Allscott green is the key to success for a new, younger-looking Shropshire line-up – hence the league’s decision to allow practice on it on the day of a competition there - which was agreed at this week's May meeting.
The under-15s taking part in the league’s Merit in the evening are asked to take a two hour break from 4.30pm, but Phil stresses that all members of the home county squad will be welcome to go on the green in the evening even though the comp is being run.
There is no sponsor for the competition this year as Shifnal BC, who backed it to the tune of £60 last year, are watching expenditure as they go through the costly process of de-merging from Shifnal Cricket Club
