Life Membership For Jeff

posted Apr 29, 2016, 12:10 PM by Malcolm Fletcher
Jeff Hutchinson, who ended more than four decades of service to the League by serving it for four years as President, has been elected a Life Member of the Mid Shropshire  League.

Jeff, who has recently moved from Cressage to live in Wellington, was awarded the honour at the April executive committee meeting and has now received an official letter of recognition.

He represented Mid Shropshire as County President in 2005, thus following in the footsteps of his father Ray in 1975-6, and a league spokesman said: "The gift of Life Membership is the least the League can do in terms of a fitting reward."

Jeff was League President from 2011 to 2015, standing down at January's AGM with a gracious retirement speech, to be succeeded by Mike Potter.

Now a playing member of Sir John Bayley, Jeff's greatest claim to bowls fame was winning a big money open competition at the now built-on White Horse in Heath Hill, Dawley, when he beat then Shropshire No.1 Tony Poole and Staffs star Mel Evans on finals night.
