Three past winners – one of them a hat-trick hero – feature in the League’s Senior Merit finals on Saturday 1st July, starting at 2pm.

Sixteen high calibre qualifiers head for Donnington Wood and the club's newer No.2 green with the former champions among the favourites.

Bowring’s Alan Jones lifted the trophy in 1985, 1991 and 1994 while his namesake from Madeley Cricket Club starred in 2013 and 2015.

But among a number of regular Shropshire Premier League bowlers in the line-up is 2012 winner Jamie King (Bowring) who, like Tony Garmson, Martin Gaut and Craig Baugh, appeared in last weekend’s County Merit finals at Pontesbury.

Five Sir John Bayley bowlers have qualified, plus three from Wrockwardine Wood and the League's competition secretary, Phil King of division one leaders Hadley USC, who won the Dixon Driscoll Doubles just last weekend with younger son Aaron.

First round pairings on finals day:

Top half: Alan Jones (Madeley CC) v Jamie King (Bowring), Paul Bradburne (SJB) v Alan Jones (Bowring), Craig Baugh (SJB) v Tony Garmson (Wrock Wd), Phil King (Hadley USC) v Tom Roden (SJB).

Bottom half – Rob Burroughs (SJB) v Dan Wilson (St Georges), John Price (Hadley USC) v Martin Gaut (Wrock Wd), Chris Lodge (Madeley CC) v Paul Reeves (SJB), Simon Oldcorn (Trench) v Ian Delves (Wrock Wd).
