Shield Draw & Comp Updates

League comps chief Phil King has today (April 21) made the draw for the preliminary round of the Ashton Shield.

The five home-five away ties to be played on Wednesday 4 May are:

Sinclair C (+4) v Charlton B (+13), Sir John Bayley D (+34) v Wrockwardine Wood D (+31), Highley B (+22) v Bylet C (+20)
All other teams have byes into the first round proper.

* Closing date for entries in this year's Senior Merit is Friday 6 May and league officials are hoping to break through the 60 entries barrier. A new rule passed at the 2016 AGM means Premier League bowlers are now eligible to play in the competition - as long as they have played a minimum total of 10 Thursday and / or Saturday fixtures in the previous and / or current season.

* Saturday 7 May is Under-15 Merit time, at Allscott at 6.30pm. Enter on night, dress code rules apply (the home leg of the Shropshire junior match versus Merseyside is at the same venue the next day at 2pm)

* The new Over-60 Merit will be launched on Saturday 14 May, at Trench with a 2pm start. Enter on day, dress code rules appley.

* St Georges will again host the second running of the Under-25 Merit on Saturday 18 June, with a 6pm start.
