The League's reigning Senior Merit champion has managed to win another title this year, despite bowls action being severely limited by the pandemic.

Jamie King, who also joined the handful of county men to have won the Midland Masters crown when he triumphed at Prees 13 months ago, teamed up with Bylet's Rob Fuller to taste success in an Invitation Doubles at Penn, near Wolverhampton.

Jamie, who now bowls for Wrockwardine Wood, and Rob landed the £100 first prize by beating Nick Wyer & Craig Skidmore in the final, Jamie explaining: “We went 12-2 up and then it was end for end after that and we won halfway.”

That followed a 21-5 semi-final romp against fellow Wrockite Dan Taylor and Reece Farr of Highley as Rob, who played for Penn on Saturday afternoons in the South Staffs League last year, put his green knowledge to good use.

As for Jamie - who has won the Mid Shropshire Merit three times in total - and his playing plans, the married father of two said: “That’s it for me now – I might play a few times on a Sunday in the winter series, as and when it fits round the family.”
