League Keeps Its Word

The following letter has now been sent to the secretaries of all 26 member clubs:

Dear Club Secretary,

First and foremost, we hope this letter finds you, your club and its members all safe and well as this most difficult year of 2020 lurches on.

Please find enclosed a cheque for £42.50, the figure that the League’s officers promised to pay all of its 26 member clubs at a virtual meeting by the Zoom app in May.

They voted unanimously to grant the figure to cover the cost of the BCGBA affiliation fee (£35), SCGBA affiliation fee (£5) and the £2.50 price of the BCGBA Handbook that every affiliated club has to buy annually.

It’s a gesture the League – which by its constitution is a not for profit organisation - can afford and officers hope that it is one that is accepted as a show of appreciation of our clubs, who are the lifeblood of the League.

The plan now is to organise an executive meeting via Zoom for a single delegate of each club to log in to and take part. This will probably be held over 3 nights (9 clubs on the first night, 9 on the second and 8 on the last) either at the end of this month or in early November.

An agenda will be sent out for clubs to discuss in advance so that their delegate can have a proper mandate to speak. The idea is to get club delegates used to the Zoom system and give the League’s officers a feel for how the clubs are doing in the circumstances.

And it could be that, unless the current Covid picture improves dramatically, we have to have future meetings - including the 2021 AGM - this ‘virtual’ way. We’ll keep in touch!

Kind regards,

Celia Miles / Malcolm Fletcher
