No-go Relaunch II on September 19

After consulting with the officers directly involved, and seeking advice from county safeguarding officer Phil Scott, we have decided NOT to go ahead with 2020 Relaunch II, which was planned for Saturday 19th September back at Edgmond.

There is, as I write, no updated guidance from the BCGBA after the change in social gatherings rule announced by the Govt that reduces the number from 30 down to 6 from Monday.

Team Sports are still allowed, but this would be a singles comp with bowlers potentially travelling from far and wide – and Phil's advice is to err on the side of caution, agreeing with our decision to call it off.

It’s true the League was desperate to prove that MSBL 2020 Relaunch on September 5 could be done in the proper way, and most importantly safely, but this time the idea of setting up another competition does not feel right.

In fact it feels irresponsible . . . for a whole host of reasons.

And given the latest Govt announcement, none of the officers directly involved with organising the second singles event, even for a limited field of 16, are happy to go ahead . . . so that is that.

It is a decision that has not been taken lightly and is very sad, but those who would be in charge of Relaunch II feel it is the right one - especially given the email received tonight from Telford & Wrekin Council (posted under the Coronavirus icon).
