Open Invite To Winter Series

Mid Shropshire bowlers looking for a slice of competitive action - in strictly controlled and safe circumstances - have been urged to consider playing in the popular North Shropshire Parks' winter series.

The association’s sixth winter series starts on Sunday 20th September at Adderley, near Market Drayton (TF9 3TF).

“Due to being Covid affected, I'm having to change the format of the day - hopefully for this season only,” explained series organiser Jamie Brookes, who bowled for Elephant & Castle in the Dennis Lewis Thursday Division in 2019.

He was regularly coping with fields of 50-plus all starting at the same time in the 2019-20 winter series - before lockdown intervened in March.

“Now I will be running three sessions of round-robin games only each round (with no knockout sections) and for each session I can only have a maximum of 25 to 28 entrants.”

Start times for the sessions are – one: 9.15 for 9.30am; session two: 12.30 for 12.45pm; session three: 3.45 for 4pm; hot food and drinks will be available.

“As normal, the higher a bowler finishes in a group, the more points they'll receive – and all points scored will go into a league, creating our normal end of season finals day,” added Brookes.

“For this season only the entrance fee will be £5 each, but there will not be any daily prize fund, so there’s less handling of money.

“Although I'll try to accommodate all entrants, please accept my apologies in advance if I can't. And I need to know in advance from those that wish to take part (and their preferred session) on 07522-624773.

“Let's have as friendly, competitive a season as possible - but keep within the latest Covid guidelines.”
