Two open competitions at Mid Shropshire clubs – one of them a Champion of Champions qualifier – have bit the dust.

The Covid 19 outbreak has forced the organisers of the St Georges Open and Candlin Doubles at Sinclair to make early decisions to call them off.
Just last weekend the last 32 line-up for the finals of the £7,000 St Georges Open was completed, but organiser Graham Turner has not given up hope of the competition being completed this year.

“Due to communication from the BCGBA the finals are now suspended until further notice. I will advise all finalists when a new date can be arranged,” said Turner.

Qualifiers from the second weekend included Bylet duo Scott Harries and Rob Fuller, British No.1 Callum Wraight,, two-in-row County Merit winner Spencer Clarke and former Shropshire man James Grimston.

It was bad news too from Stuart Church, open organiser at Telford club Sinclair, who said: “Due to the coronavirus, the Candlin Doubles has been postponed. Monies paid will be refunded.”
