Fletcher Junior Doubles

Jack France and Aaron King have dominated the league’s junior doubles for the last three years - but never together.

Both have won the under-18 title for the last two years . . . with different partners.

But on Saturday the Newport-Bowring duo joined forces to come out on top of eight pairs that contested the crown at Maddocks the night before the home leg of Shropshire juniors’ county championship final there.

France & King beat Shropshire Junior Merit winner Justin Pegram (Newport) and Josh Cotton (Wrockwardine Wood) 21-18 in a nip and tuck final that finished after 11pm, being presented with the trophy by sponsors Margaret and Malcolm Fletcher.

Both semi-finals were close too, Pegram & Cotton just getting the better of league under-18 Merit winner Kieron Buckley (Donnington Wood) & Jamie Fletcher (SJ Bayley) 21-19 while France & King were edging past Phil Jones (Wrockwardine Wood) & Harry Church (Sinclair) 21-17.

Quarter-final scores: Buckley & Fletcher 21 Joe Killen & Susie Lawson 15; Pegram & Cotton 21 Matthew Farmer & Emma Massey-Jones 12; Jones & Church 21 Tom Killen & Charlie Steventon 5; France & King 21 Sophie Massey Jones & Ellie Davies 11.

Aaron King and Jack France won the competition on Saturday, September 13, at Maddocks - the venue for the home leg of Shropshire juniors' Drakes Pride British county championship final against Warwick & Worcester the next day.

The one-dayer was held on Saturday, September 7, with an 11am start at Donnington Wood. The date for this event was orignially set by comps chief Phil King for Saturday, May 25 - but the withdrawal of the original sponsor meant it was cancelled.
But the under-18 doubles has been saved after a new sponsorship deal offered by the family of the general secretary to keep the trophy alive was accepted at the league's July executive meeting.
It was won by Beth Lloyd and Aaron King of Bowring, as they beat Beth's twin brother David and Ellie Wall (St Georges) in the final. Due to Saturday jobs and other commitments, just four pairs entered, but at least it meant King completed a Mid Shropshire double as he had won the league's Under-15 Merit earlier in the season.

Sam Millward and Jack France, runners-up last year, went one better by winning the trophy on Saturday, June 23, at Maddocks No 2.
Organiser Phil King picked the venue as it is being used by the Shropshire junior team for their next match on Sunday, July 8 against North Lancs & Fylde - and Millward & France got in some great practice.
They beat the new Sir John Bayley partnership of Ben Hudson and Jamie Fletcher 21-11 in the final, having defeated ALex Rutter and Josh Cotton of Wrockwardine Wood in the semi-finals.
At the same stage Hudson & Fletcher beat Chelsea Gregory & Aaron King (Hadley USC) 21-9, having run out from 19-10 down to beat Sally Clee  & Ellie Wall in the quarter-finals.

The winners were Jamie King & Ashley Gregory. The St Georges-Hadley USC duo retained the trophy with a third success in four years, defeating Sam Millward & Jack France of Newport 21-8 in the final at Abbey.
Eight pairs took part in the one-day comp and the semi-final scores were: King & Gregory 21, James & Mathew Farmer (Newport) 8; Millward & France 21, Louise Potter & Beth Lloyd (Trench) 19.
